New caretaker State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Eltje “Eddie” van Marum has pledged to strengthen ties with the Caribbean countries of the Kingdom through a people-first approach focused on listening and collaboration.

Van Marum, who also handles earthquake damage claims in the Netherlands’ Groningen region, said his experience there has shaped his commitment to direct engagement. He emphasized that while the issues may differ, both roles require building trust through dialogue and action.

Representing the BBB party, Van Marum reaffirmed his commitment to the priorities of sound public finances and good governance in Curaçao, Aruba, and St. Maarten, continuing the agenda of his predecessor.

He stated his intent to visit all six Caribbean islands soon to hear firsthand the concerns and aspirations of residents. His broader focus also includes improving digitisation and ensuring that The Hague remains a reliable partner for the islands.
