Bureau Telecommunications and Post (BTP) celebrated its 15th anniversary as the national regulator for telecommunications and postal services, unveiling a bold new direction under Interim Director Judianne Labega-Hoeve.
Over the past decade and a half, BTP has played a key role in advancing connectivity, ensuring fair competition, and supporting innovation across Sint Maarten’s telecom sector. As it looks ahead, BTP has launched a five-year roadmap to become a G4 Regulator, aligning with global standards for governance, capacity, and digital transformation — a move set to strengthen investment and improve digital infrastructure.
The milestone also marks the rollout of a rebranding initiative that emphasizes BTP’s core values of integrity, adaptability, transparency, fairness, and accountability.
Labega-Hoeve reaffirmed BTP’s commitment to strong financial stewardship and clean audits, while noting the agency’s expanded mandate — including tariff regulation for NV GEBE and the drafting of new energy legislation promoting transparency, consumer protection, and renewable integration.
“As we enter this new chapter, BTP remains dedicated to building a connected, sustainable, and equitable Sint Maarten,” said Labega-Hoeve.
