Fifteen civil servants in St. Eustatius recently completed a three-day Protocol Training led by Curaçao protocol expert Kenneth Anthony de Haseth, enhancing their skills in ceremony management and diplomatic etiquette ahead of Statia Day celebrations.
In another key milestone, the Statia Government signed a contract with Statia Roads & Construction B.V. to prepare the Fair Play site for 36 new social housing units. Commissioner Reuben Merkman called the signing “a major step toward delivering affordable, high-quality housing.”
Meanwhile, the Foundation for Legal Aid and Equal Treatment Caribbean Netherlands has been formally established, creating “Legal Desks” on Bonaire, Saba, and St. Eustatius to offer free advice on legal issues and discrimination. Executive Director Suhendra Leon will lead the initiative, with support from a supervisory board chaired by Marga Buys-Trimp.
Government officials hailed the foundation as a crucial step toward ensuring equal legal protection for all residents across the Caribbean Netherlands.
