Financial Literacy Month continued yesterday with Minister of Finance Marinka Gumbs leading a series of activities focused on empowering citizens through financial education.

Over the past week, Minister Gumbs hosted sessions aimed at helping both civil servants and members of the public better understand key aspects of personal finance. The first session, “Understanding Your Payslip,” provided civil servants with valuable insights into their monthly earnings, deductions, and benefits. A follow-up session for the public last Thursday also drew strong participation and positive feedback.

The Minister also visited St. Joseph School and Martin Luther King Jr. School, where she taught students about the importance of budgeting and responsible money management from a young age — emphasizing that financial awareness is a lifelong skill that begins early.

Yesterday evening, the latest session titled “Budgeting Basics” was held at the Government Administration Building, led by financial coach Shineca Carty, known as “The Budget Babe.” The interactive workshop focused on practical tools for creating and maintaining budgets, managing expenses, and setting realistic financial goals.

Minister Gumbs encouraged continued participation, stating, “Financial education is the foundation of economic empowerment. These sessions equip our people with the knowledge and tools to make smarter financial choices and build stronger futures.”

The Minister urged the public to register early for remaining sessions at www.finlitsxm.com as space is limited.
