A new bilingual English–Dutch edition of Animals Around Me / Dieren om mij heen—a coloring book and nature journal featuring 41 animals found on St. Martin—will be launched this Saturday, November 29th, in French Quarter.
The book, originally released in English–French, was translated and published with funding from the Rotary Club of St. Maarten, after teachers noted Dutch was one of the hardest subjects for students to master. Les Fruits de Mer President Jenn Yerkes said the new edition helps students learn about local wildlife while building language skills crucial for future studies and careers.
Rotary Club President Adelena Chandler said supporting the project strengthens both education and appreciation for the island’s natural heritage.
The launch will take place from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Amuseum Naturalis at The Old House, where guests will receive a free copy of the book. A coloring station, refreshments, and access to the museum will also be available.
Free printed copies will continue to be distributed to local schools, while digital downloads are available online. Les Fruits de Mer plans to produce more English–Dutch educational books in the years ahead.
