The Sint Maarten Library is celebrating the success of its 2025 Cyber-Seniors Technology Program, which has been helping older adults across the island gain confidence in the digital world. The program wrapped up on November 28 with a special closing ceremony honoring this year’s graduating seniors.
Participants in the beginners’ level received Foundational Technology Certificates, while those who completed the advanced track were awarded Advanced Technology Certificates — marking real progress in their ability to manage everyday digital tasks. During the ceremony, seniors and library staff shared heartfelt stories about how the program strengthened their confidence, kept their minds active, and helped build meaningful new connections.
The library also expressed gratitude to its partners — SZV Social & Health Insurances, Windward Island Bank, and the Tax Administration — for their continued support.
Since February, seniors have taken free hands-on classes covering everything from email and smartphone basics to online banking, internet safety, tax filing, and even borrowing e-books. Many said the program didn’t just teach them technology — it helped them stay socially engaged and more connected to family and community life.
Due to limited space, the library converted corners of the building into cozy classrooms, keeping sessions small with just ten participants. The strong turnout and high demand show how eager Sint Maarten’s seniors are to keep learning and adapting to the digital age.
Program lead Ms. F. Housen says the mission has always been deeper than tech training — it’s about empowerment, confidence, and inclusion.
Registration for the next round of Cyber-Seniors classes opens in February 2026. For more information, residents can visit the library’s website or call 542-2970.
