The St. Maarten Science Fair Foundation (SMSFF) is preparing for a dynamic and inspiring Science Week 2026, scheduled for March 9–13 under the theme “Innovate for Wellbeing.” The week will offer students island-wide opportunities to explore STEAM fields, showcase creativity, and engage with real-world scientific problem-solving.

The program includes an art competition, where secondary students will produce work that reflects the year’s theme. The winning design will become the official artwork for all Science Week promotions. The week opens on March 9 with a ceremony, keynote speaker, and expert STEAM panel, followed by field trips on March 10 for students to visit companies and institutions offering insight into local science and technology career paths.

On March 12–13, students will present projects in natural sciences, robotics, software, environmental science, and social science at the National Science Fair exhibitions, which will be open to the public and visiting primary schools.

SMSFF President Dr. Rolinda Carter says the week continues to help students think critically, innovate, and contribute to St. Maarten’s wellbeing.

St. Maarten will also participate in the first annual OECSRA Regional Super Challenge in the British Virgin Islands from March 16–20, themed “Innovating for a Sustainable Caribbean Future.” A team of two students and one coach will represent the island, with local schools invited to nominate students aged 14–18 who are passionate about robotics, engineering, coding, or STEAM problem-solving. Selected students will train early next year.

Registration for Science Week and volunteer sign-ups are now open through the SMSFF website and volunteer.sx, with full contact details available through SMSFF’s social media pages.

The month concludes with the Science Week Awards Ceremony on March 21, 2026.
