The Green Dream Projects Foundation is recognizing MP Ludmila de Weever for her early and impactful role in promoting environmental awareness in Sint Maarten, particularly at a time when sustainability was not yet a mainstream public issue.
Her advocacy was highlighted on the cover of EnviroNews in August 2007, where she was featured holding a reusable cloth bag bearing the message, “Thank You For Not Using Plastic! Sint Maarten.” The image symbolized a practical, community-focused approach to reducing single-use plastics and encouraging responsible consumer behavior.
That same edition of EnviroNews also addressed broader environmental solutions, including waste-to-energy initiatives, reflecting an early push toward integrated approaches to waste management on the island.
The Green Dream Projects Foundation notes that such early efforts by local advocates helped lay the groundwork for today’s sustainability, circular-economy, and youth-driven environmental initiatives, and continue to influence environmental awareness in Sint Maarten.
