Minister of Education Melissa Gumbs says the FBE Exit Exam will not be scrapped, stressing that removing it would not fix deeper issues within the education system.
Speaking on her MECYS Matters platform, the minister warned against quick fixes, noting that the real challenge lies in gaps in student development and learning experiences.
She highlighted the critical role of parents and teachers, emphasizing that foundational skills must begin at home and be supported consistently in the classroom.
Gumbs also pointed out concerns that academic standards may be lowered to compensate for gaps, something she says must be addressed rather than avoided.
Calling for collective responsibility, she urged parents, schools, government, and even the private sector to play a more active role in supporting education.
The minister says meaningful improvement will require long-term commitment, not short-term solutions.
