SINT MAARTEN — The Police Force of Sint Maarten is investigating a shooting incident in Dutch Quarter, while also issuing safety guidelines ahead of the official Carnival opening.

Police say the incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. along Nazareth Road, where officers responded to reports of a man found bleeding.

Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim with a grazing gunshot wound to the lower body, who reported being shot at by an unknown suspect. The victim was treated on the scene by ambulance personnel.

Detectives are now working to determine the circumstances and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile, KPSM is calling for public cooperation ahead of the Carnival 55 Jump-Up, set for April 10th from South Reward to Festival Village.

Police warn that strict enforcement will be in place, targeting public disturbances, illegal alcohol sales, and unsafe behavior, including scooters interfering with the parade.

Parents are also being urged to guide minors on proper conduct, as authorities emphasize the importance of safety during the Carnival season.

KPSM says its goal is to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, as festivities officially begin.
