As Carnival season approaches, the Department of Youth is calling on young people to enjoy the festivities while making responsible and informed decisions.
Officials emphasized that while Carnival is a key part of St. Maarten’s cultural identity, safety and well-being must remain a priority. Youth are being encouraged to avoid alcohol and drugs, stay with trusted friends, and make choices that will not negatively impact their future.
The Department also reminded stakeholders of children’s rights to protection, highlighting the importance of safeguarding young people during large public events.
Parents and guardians are being urged to take an active role by staying informed and guiding their children on which events are appropriate. Vendors and booth holders are also reminded to strictly follow age regulations, particularly regarding the sale of alcohol.
The message is clear: Carnival should be a time of celebration, but one that is safe, responsible, and positive for all involved.
