The Royal Netherlands Army has been carrying out military exercises on Bonaire as part of ongoing efforts to maintain operational readiness in the Dutch Caribbean. Reports say the training involves the Company in the West, a unit normally stationed on Curaçao, and is scheduled to continue through April 22. The exercise is meant to prepare troops for defense duties within the Kingdom, while also allowing them to train under local conditions and strengthen coordination on the ground. Residents were advised they may see increased military activity during the exercise period.
Elsewhere in the region, security has also been a major concern in St. Kitts and Nevis. Authorities there called a press briefing for Monday, April 20, to address recent firearm-related incidents and outline the national response. The briefing, led by the Ministry of National Security together with the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, comes amid what officials have described as a recent spike in criminal activity and a push for stronger coordinated action.
And in Antigua and Barbuda, regional cooperation was on display in the maritime sector. A newly appointed Bermuda port official completed a week-long residency at the Antigua Port Authority, where the exchange focused on operations, logistics, infrastructure, and management systems. The program was framed as part of a wider effort to deepen Caribbean cooperation and strengthen port capacity through shared training and expertise.
Together, the developments reflect a wider regional theme: from military readiness in Bonaire, to domestic security in St. Kitts and Nevis, to technical cooperation in Antigua, Caribbean territories continue working to strengthen preparedness, coordination, and resilience across key sectors.
