During a meeting with representatives of the Vitiligo Education and Inspiration Support Society, the Acting Minister signed an official statement marking the observance and highlighting the importance of education and public awareness in reducing stigma associated with the condition.

Discussions focused on promoting understanding within the community and supporting individuals affected by vitiligo, a condition that causes loss of skin pigmentation. Foundation representatives outlined ongoing outreach initiatives, particularly within schools, aimed at fostering acceptance and educating young people about the condition.

Minister Mercelina emphasized that World Vitiligo Day serves as a reminder that every individual deserves dignity, respect, and equal opportunity, regardless of appearance. He noted that increased awareness can help challenge misconceptions and build a more inclusive society.

The official statement also encourages healthcare professionals, educators, employers, and community organizations to support awareness efforts and embrace the message: “See the Person, Not the Condition.”

Government officials commended the foundation’s advocacy work and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting health equity, inclusion, and respect for all members of the community.
