The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport has assured the public that planned works at Oranje School will preserve the site's historical character, despite the scheduled demolition of a section of the school's exterior wall.

According to the Ministry, confirmation has been received from the Department of Culture that the section of wall slated for demolition is not part of the school's protected monument designation. Officials clarified that the protected status applies specifically to the Oranje School office building and not to the exterior wall.

The Ministry also emphasized that the wall will be reconstructed once the infrastructure works are completed. The rebuilt section will be designed to restore the wall's original appearance and remain consistent with the historic architectural character of the school compound.

Officials said the project is being carried out with careful consideration for the cultural and historical significance of Oranje School, which is recognized as the oldest school on Sint Maarten. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to balancing the preservation of the island's heritage with the need to undertake essential infrastructure improvements safely and responsibly.

The public is being thanked for its understanding and cooperation while the work is carried out.
