Sint Maarten’s justice agencies have intensified enforcement efforts following a firearm arrest, an armed robbery, and a major operation at two border crossings.

Police, Customs, and Immigration officers conducted simultaneous controls on July thirty-first at the Union Road–Bellevue and Belvedere–Belle Plaine crossings, with the knowledge of French authorities.

Officers inspected 125 vehicles and searched 67. Two vehicles were impounded for having no valid road tax, while seven traffic fines were issued for violations including driving without a license or insurance.

One person was arrested for marijuana possession. Authorities also confiscated a machete, nunchuck, and knife from separate vehicles.

Earlier that morning, three suspects were arrested at Walter Plantz Square after police received reports of two men dressed in black near closed food stalls.

One suspect ran as officers approached but was found hiding behind a stall. Police later recovered a firearm concealed beneath a garbage bin. All three suspects remain in custody for alleged violations of the Firearms Ordinance.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating an armed robbery at a business near the Union Road roundabout.

Police say three men arrived in an older gray vehicle. Two entered the establishment while the third waited behind the wheel. Employees escaped through a rear door before the suspects robbed the business and fled.
