Fourteen-year-old athlete Nahjah Wyatte Muñoz has been named the 2026 recipient of the President of Parliament Award.
The recognition was presented during the reception marking the opening of the new Parliamentary Year, where Parliament also honored the top five nominees selected from a record 20 nominations.
The other finalists were Mai-Angel Martis, Arianna Khemchandani, Ingemar Arndell and Sara Bharwani.
Wyatte Muñoz was recognized for his dedication to athletics and his growing list of historic achievements for Sint Maarten.
In 2025, he became the country’s first gold medalist at the NACAC Age Group Championships.
Then in April 2026, he made history again by becoming Sint Maarten’s first CARIFTA Games gold medalist, winning the boys’ Under-17 800 metres in a personal-best time of 1 minute, 53.26 seconds.
Parliament says the annual award recognizes young people who demonstrate leadership, exemplary behavior and meaningful service to the community.
