The University of St. Martin brought students, faculty and community members together for an evening of poetry, spoken word and storytelling during its latest Lit Night.
The event was held in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day under the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide.”
Many attendees wore yellow as a symbol of hope and solidarity, while USM Counselor Dr. Carole Joseph encouraged participants to check in on others and speak more openly about mental health.
Students, staff and community performers then took the stage to share original poetry and personal stories, followed by an open-mic session.
USM also announced plans to develop a new literary magazine featuring work from students, faculty, staff and the wider community.
Organizers say the evening demonstrated how creative expression can help build confidence, strengthen connections and create space for important conversations about mental health and belonging.
