Sint Maarten’s Her Way women’s 3x3 basketball initiative has taken another major step in its regional expansion with its largest event so far, held in Curaçao.
The tournament featured 25 teams competing across four divisions: 12-and-under, 15-and-under, 18-and-under and Senior Women.
Teams came from Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Anguilla and other participating islands.
Sint Maarten’s Team Xtreme went undefeated at 4-and-0 to win the Senior Women’s division, while Curaçao teams captured the three youth titles.
Her Way founder Paul Bell says the initiative is designed to create a pathway for girls to enter basketball at a young age and continue developing into senior competition.
The Curaçao event grew out of a partnership that began after a Curaçao delegation participated in a Her Way tournament on Sint Maarten last December.
Organizers say the long-term goal is to build a stronger Caribbean pathway for women’s 3x3 basketball, including opportunities to compete internationally and eventually reach the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series.
