Local artist and designer Zillah Duzon-Hazel has completed a refreshed version of her Color Me SXM mural in Philipsburg, opposite Oranje School.
The original mural was created six years ago and had begun showing signs of wear, including damage to some of the wooden panels.
The new version again features three of Duzon-Hazel’s colorful patterns, inspired by St. Maarten and the wider Caribbean.
Her work often draws from tropical fruits, landscapes, nature and island colors, and has also appeared in fashion collections under her Jolie Duzon brand.
The mural refresh was carried out through Be The Change Foundation’s Color Me SXM project, with support from Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied.
Duzon-Hazel says residents, tourists and nearby businesses also showed support during the painting process.
Organizers say the goal is to continue using public art to brighten Philipsburg while creating spaces that celebrate local creativity and culture.
