Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performing Arts was closed Wednesday as a precaution after a student tested positive for COVID-19.
Education Minister Melissa Gumbs says she was informed early Wednesday morning by school director Silveria Jacobs, who also reported that other students and teachers were experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Jacobs then decided to close the school for the day so the campus could undergo a thorough cleaning and sanitization.
Government says the measure was taken to protect students, teachers and staff while the situation is assessed.
No official number has been given for how many people are experiencing symptoms, and no additional details have yet been released on when regular classes will resume.
Parents and students are being advised to await further communication from the school regarding reopening and any additional health measures.
