St. Kitts and Nevis is celebrating its 43rd anniversary of Independence, with national leaders using the occasion to highlight development at home and the continued role of Kittitians and Nevisians living abroad.
Acting Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley pointed to major investment in water infrastructure, including a new two-million-gallon desalination plant, new wells and pipeline upgrades. He also highlighted the increase in the minimum wage to EC$12.50 per hour, pension support for government auxiliary workers and the expansion of the ASPIRE youth savings programme. SKN News
In London, nearly 200 members of the St. Kitts and Nevis diaspora gathered with High Commissioner Kevin Isaac under this year’s theme, “One People, One Vision, Endless Possibilities.” Isaac called on nationals abroad to contribute through investment, mentorship, professional knowledge and stronger connections with the Federation. wp.caribscopeonline.com
The diaspora gathering also included a service at Westminster Abbey marking the anniversary.
