A record 502 men took part in St. Maarten Medical Center’s annual Men’s Health Day on September 26th, 2026, receiving free screenings for prostate cancer, blood pressure, diabetes and HIV.
The event, organized with the Positive and Elektralytes Foundations, represented a 234-percent increase compared with the 150 men screened last year.
Of the 502 men who completed PSA testing, 430 had results within the reported normal range, while 72 had elevated PSA levels above four-point-zero. Of those 72, ten had PSA levels above 9.9. SMMC says men with elevated results were scheduled for follow-up consultations.
PSA testing was made available at no cost to uninsured men through a partnership with St. Maarten Laboratory Services, while men requiring additional evaluation could be referred to SMMC’s Urology or Radiology departments.
SMMC says the turnout highlights the importance of early detection and prevention and credits its medical staff, volunteers and corporate partners for making the event possible.
PSA testing is available year-round at SLS locations, while SMMC’s Urology Department can be reached at 543-1111 or 910, extension 1379.
SMMC will hold its annual Women’s Health Day on October 31, offering free breast cancer screenings and additional health checks.
