The University of St. Martin has announced that Dr. Rolinda Carter will return to the institution as its President in January 2027.

Carter’s connection to USM began as a student in the university’s GED program. She went on to earn an Associate degree at USM before continuing her education in Canada, where she obtained her Bachelor’s and Doctoral degrees.

She later returned to USM as Dean of Academics in 2018, bringing both academic experience and a personal understanding of the university and its students.

In 2022, Carter left her position at USM to pursue her professional work in laboratory medicine while remaining in St. Maarten. She also continued her involvement in education, science and youth development, including leadership of the island’s National Science Fair.

USM’s Board of Directors welcomed her return, highlighting her unique journey from student, to graduate, to Dean and now President.

The university says Carter’s appointment reflects the possibilities that education can create and marks a new chapter for the institution as it continues to expand opportunities for students in St. Maarten and the wider region.
