A free breast and health screening event organized through a partnership involving the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Collective Prevention Services, the Positive Foundation and Elektralyets Foundation screened 32 women on October 3rd.

The event was held at the Vineyard building and included health screenings, breast cancer education and clinical breast examinations.

AUC medical students and clinical fellows also provided information on breast cancer risk factors, prevention and the importance of early detection.

Breast cancer specialist Dr. Naira Chobanyan conducted clinical breast examinations for the 32 participants and provided individualized guidance on breast health.

AUC says that, to date, 780 women in Sint Maarten have been screened through its breast health initiatives.

Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina also visited the event, highlighting the importance of collaboration between healthcare institutions, government and community organizations in improving access to preventive care.
