NV GEBE will continue supporting senior citizens in Sint Maarten in 2027, but under a new arrangement with government.
Beginning next year, GEBE will provide funding for senior relief, while the Department of Social Services under the Ministry of VSA will handle applications, assess eligibility and determine who qualifies for assistance.
The change means GEBE will no longer directly receive applications or select beneficiaries for the program.
Temporary Manager Iris Arrindell says the new structure is intended to place assessments with the government agency better positioned to evaluate individual circumstances and identify seniors most in need.
GEBE says the change does not end its longstanding commitment to senior support, but represents a different way of administering the assistance.
Government is expected to announce the eligibility criteria, application process, deadlines and required documents for the 2027 relief program at a later date.
GEBE says it will continue funding the initiative as part of its broader commitment to the well-being of Sint Maarten’s senior community.
