SAINT-MARTIN is moving forward with a major surveillance expansion, with 80 cameras planned across the territory between 2026 and 2028.
The project is valued at about 4 million euros and is intended to rebuild and expand infrastructure damaged during Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The rollout will take place in two phases, with 61 cameras planned for 2026 and 2027, followed by another 19 cameras in 2027 and 2028.
Coverage is expected in areas including Marigot, Concordia, Grand-Case, Sandy Ground, Baie Nettlé, Quartier d’Orléans, Cul-de-Sac, Colombier and several border zones.
The Collectivité says preparatory fiber-optic work is already underway and the first camera installations are expected to begin soon.
A new Urban Supervision Center is also planned at the Semsamar building, with the Territorial Police managing the system in partnership with the Gendarmerie.
The Collectivité is still seeking financial support from the French State, and no confirmation has yet been given on when the first cameras will become operational.
